Every year we wait what seems like forever for the temperatures to warm up and the rain to stop when finally we have some real summer weather. It takes forever to get here and then it seems like it is gone in a flash. So this year let’s stop and take some time to really enjoy it. Summer is a time to get together with family and enjoy the outdoor fun. Most people save their annual holidays so they can get out and away from work to just relax and soak up the warm sun. But if you cannot take off a full week then try to take an hour or two each day to stop work and relax and enjoy the warm weather. Take advantage of the long summer days.
It is very important that we take the time off to recharge our bodies, minds and souls. Even if you are retired you need to change your routine so that you are not always on the go – stop and relax, take a deep breath and then let it out while you look around you and take notice of the things that only happen in the short summer months. Delight your eyes and mind with the awesome colours of the flowers and vegetation. Get outdoors as often as you can to breathe in the fresh air and soak up the sun, short periods in the sun are very good for you. Also remember the sun gives you the immune boosting vitamin D that your body needs. Your body can soak up this live giving vitamin D all summer long and will benefit from it for months to come well into the winter months. Make sure you hydrate yourself often and take breaks in the shade so you it does not cause harm. Getting outdoors into the fresh air and sunshine will also clean out the staleness we have had from being inside for so long during the winter months. Getting exercise outside while we can will add a new energy to our lives as well. Fresh air, exercise and sunshine are a great part of the summer!
